McKinsey and Mukesh Ambani : Consultant and client : Cosy relationship

How do consultancy firms market themselves? The time-tested principle is simple: Employ the client first and then automatically get consultancy assignments.

Mukesh Ambani's daughter has joined McKinsey. She has graduated in psychology and south Asian studies. She plays the piano. It is not difficult to guess why the consultant has absorbed her.

Adil Zainulbhai, a former Chairman of McKinsey India was recently appointed an "independent director" on the Board of Reliance Industries Limited. An independent director is expected to safeguard the interests of all shareholders without being obliged to any major shareholder. Adil Zainulbhai has to be extremely stoic to remain independent.

Crony capitalism has multiple avatars.
